Sanctuary Wall was inspired by the news that the proposed southern border wall will bulldoze through the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas, a haven for hundreds of species of butterflies, migrating birds, and endangered animals.

Look for the monarchs and the nectar they need. Find the gaze of the ocelot in the brush, its amputation looming. People peer through laboratory cages of longing and loss. Is anyone truly safe while someone else is not? We are all seekers of sanctuary and redactors of fear as we neatly slice the Earth. Can you see the writing on the wall?
